Taapsee Pannu On Smriti Irani Praising Thappad Trailer: 'Happy We All Connect On This Issue'- EXCLUSIVE
The trailer of Taapsee Pannu's upcoming film, Thappad, directed by Anubhav Sinha got a thumbs up from Union Minister and former actress, Smriti Irani. We spoke to Taapsee to find out what does she have to say in reply to Irani's praises
Bollywood is divided into many opinions when it comes to politics. There are different people supporting different political ideologies. However, what gets them together is good cinema and right social causes. A perfect example of the same is the recent case of Union Minister and former actress, Smriti Irani praising Thappad- an Anubhav Sinha directorial starring Taapsee Pannu.
Smriti made the point very clear in her tweet that she may not "support the political ideology of the director or may disagree with some actors on some issues" but she will surely watch Taapsee's Thappad.
We got in touch with Taapsee to know what the actress has to say about Smriti's words of appreciation and encouragement. To which, the actress replied, "I am extremely pleased to know she likes the trailer n would want to watch the film. It will be a pleasure for the entire team to show her the film. I am happy we all connect on this issue."
For those who've come in later, yesterday, Smriti posted a long message on her social media handle, praising the film. Her message read, "How many have heard “aurat ko hi adjust karna padta hai“ How many think “ki maar pitai sirf gareeb auraton ke hi pati karte hai” How many believe “ki educated aadmi kabhi haath nahi uthata” How many tell their girls their daughter in laws“ koi baat nahi beta aisa to humare saath bhi hua lekin dekho aaj kitne khush hai“
I might not support the political ideology of the director or may disagree with some actors on some issues but this is a story that I will definitely watch and hope people watch it with their families. It’s not ok to hit a woman ... not even a slap ... not even JUST one slap"
Thappad, which also stars Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Kumud Mishra and Manav Kaul, will hit theatres on February 28.
